A Final Healing

Cash left us and went to meet the Lord this afternoon at 3:50 pm. He was in Wendi's arms as he breathed his last and was immediately at peace.

I'm sure as time goes on I'll have more to say as we reflect on this past year. For the moment, I would simply say we are at peace and thankful Cash is in the arms of Jesus. We were granted the amazing privilege of being Cash's parents for the short time God allowed us to be with him on the earth. We are sad yet rejoice in the tremendous healing Cash has been given and we thank God for His grace, mercy, peace, and love.

We are surrounded by those who love us and words cannot express our gratitude for your prayers and support this past year.

  5. "Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself."

  10. Remembering Cash now, and the countless things his short life taught all of us--about the preciousness of life, about trusting God when times are unspeakably tough, about the things in this world that matter most. What a miracle your son was, Jack and Wendi--and what an honor it must have been to be his parents. We love you dearly and are smiling up to heaven tonight with thoughts of Cash. And as I prepare to welcome a new baby boy into the world, I will be thinking about the precious boy who left this Earth so shortly before his arrival, and the legacy he leaves behind. I'm sure this new baby would have thought Cash was one pretty cool dude. They'll meet someday. Wishing you comfort and rest tonight. Lots of love, Sarah + Jason

  16. Many of us are taking a second look at our family tonight -- hugging them a little longer and saying we love them as a result of your son's journey. Your journey and transparency has helped me and my children remember God is first and foremost love. The love you have shown for your son and your family is truly an inspiration to us. May He continue to embrace you with His love and peace. I am grateful to have a constant reminder at work of your son -- a very large M&Ms container filled with the colors of the rainbow. I know I will have the privilege of spending an eternity in Heaven to get to know your little boy -- and to thank him for the many, many lessons he taught us in all in two very short years. Love you guys much. Kat, Michael and RoxAnn

  24. O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

    Through death into life everlasting
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!

    His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!

My prayer for you right now is that as you turn your eyes to Jesus, you will see the light of His glory and grace and that your sorrows will grow dim and that He will comfort you and fill you with His peace. The joy Cash has experienced in the few moments since he has gone to his eternal home is far more than he would have experienced had he lived 100 years on earth.

  37. I never got the privilege of meeting your beautiful cash, and I cannot even BEGIN to imagine what you must be going through. But what I do know, is how much you and your family have deeply and truly inspired me with your faith. I have never heard a testimony quite like yours but I am so deeply blessed by it. Your continued faith in God in the good times AND the bad is so incredibly inspiring. I feel as though I myself, am already questioning God's judgment in some of my own situations, and they're not even close to being as important as yours. So just HEARING about the incredible faith and trust you still have in God after going through what you've just experienced, just brings me to tears. Your story has made SUCH an impact in my life, and I respect you in so many ways. Thank you for being such inspiration. God has ALREADY used you and your beautiful family in more way than you'll ever know. God must know how incredibly strong you are, because he never gives us more than we can handle, and right now, he's given you SO much.... But I don't even have to meet you to see what kind of character you have. It's been clearly shown throughout your difficult journey. And I reeeaaalllyy hope you know, you'll be in our prayers every day. <3 <3 <3 Thank you for the blessing this has been.

    Jack and Wendi,

I'm Reid's sister and have followed your blog with a heart that has ached with the setbacks and has leaped with the victories that you have experienced during this time that Cash has been sick. Yesterday my mom told me about Cash's passing and this morning as I read it through your eyes....tears are streaming down my face. I prayed and prayed for my daughter's healing to come and she too, was only made perfect in the arms of Jesus. There was relief....that the suffering was over, that she no longer had to fight anymore...but also the overwhelming sadness that a prayer that I prayed continuously could not be answered with her still on this earth and in my arms. I pray for you and your family Jack and Wendi...you have the Greatest Comforter on your side, he too lost a child. He will be faithful. I wish I could give you a huge hug to you and to your extended families. What a day it will be when we get to see our little ones in heaven again and they are fully healed. My words feel insufficient. My thoughts and prayers are with you...may God's strong hand uphold you in the coming days and may the Glory of His faithfulness shine through Cash's story, through your family's story in the years to come. Love you you all.

    Children of the Heavenly Father
    Safely in His bosom gather
Nestling bird nor star in heaven
Such a refuge e’er was given

God His own doth tend and nourish
In His holy courts they flourish
From all evil things He spares them
In His mighty arms He bears them

Neither life nor death shall ever
From the Lord His children sever
Unto them His grace He showeth
And their sorrows all He knoweth

Though He giveth or He taketh
    God His children ne’er forsaketh
    His the loving purpose solely
To preserve them pure and holy

Our heavenly Father grieves with you, He knows your pain and sorrow.
While following your blog you have reminded me of the joy that comes with walking daily and closely with the our heavenly Father and your faith and faithfulness. God has blessed all of us that have followed your blog, thank you for sharing your joy and pain with all of us. One day when you join Cash you will know what kind of impact you had for the Kingdom Of Heaven. That is our home that we all should long for; you now will long for it more.

My heart aches for you and your children.

  82. My heartfelt sympathy to your entire family.
You are amazing parents, and Cash needed amazing parents. Not many could have taken this journey God lead you through with such amazing faith, strength, and abundant love. You have been very blessed to have the short but absolutely special time God gave you as parents of Cash. I'm sure you will cherish the memories forever. Cancer is a horrible, horrible disease..but
Cancer cannot cripple love, shatter hope, or corrode faith. It cannot destroy peace, kill friendship, or suppress memories. It cannot silence courage, invade the soul, steal eternal life, or conquer the Spirit.

(Just would like to share this poem with you)

    You weren't like other children,
    And God was well aware,
    You'd need a caring family,
    With love enough to share.

And so He sent you to us,
    And much to our surprise,
    You haven't been a challenge,
    But a blessing in disguise.

    Your winning smiles and laughter,
    The pleasures you impart,
    Far outweigh your special needs,
    And melt the coldest heart.

    A precious gift from Heaven,
    A treasure from above,
A child who's taught us many things,
But most of all - "Real Love".

Thank you keeping us informed and letting us be a small part of Cash's life. Hope you realize what an impact your family has made on many of us readers. I know I feel God has blessed me through you. I will continue to pray for your family.

  86. Jack, when you were just a kid we were neighbors. I heard of your son who was so sick and heard again when he passed on to glory. I've just spent the last hour reading thru your blogs and all I can say is; how awesome is our God to give you and your wife and family such faith and trust in his will. Having 9 grandkids of our own now I just cannot imagine the struggles and burdens you and Cashes grandparents have gone thru. The peace and trust you have as you give your precious son back to his maker is a gift from HIM and to His name be the glory. May you feel HIS string arms around you in the days ahead. In HIS love, Jack and Evelyn Hoekstra

  87. Cash was such a precious child. I know he brought much joy to your lives. When I found out about him, it made me cry. But God has chosen to take Cash to his real home, where there is no more pain. My class and I have contined to pray for you, and I hope you will be comforted with God's love.
